Join with the locals in celebrating local culture, food and wine and our unique way of life. And don’t ‘leaf’ town before seeing the changing tones of beautiful autumn leaves – falling from our gorgeous trees from April until early June.

Always loved by locals, these days, the race also draws people from around the country to see some of the best racehorses, from two and three-year-old track stars to seasoned gallopers vying for Cup honours. 

7 April - Killarney Picnic Basket Day, Killarney 


Spread out on the lawns of Melrose Station for Picnic Basket Day - a fun, family day where locals and visitors can experience the natural beauty of Killarney while enjoying wonderful local produce.

22-28 April - Adina Polocrosse World Cup, Warwick

27 April - 5 May - Big Skies, Western Downs


A 9-day extravaganza celebrating the sights, sounds, tastes and experiences of the Western Downs. Lead by the iconic Dalby Picnic Races - a tradition since 1902. Take a peak inside the majestic Jimbour House, experience the sale day action at the Dalby Saleyards, feast with friends and food lovers alike at a Long Lunch. Then when the sun sets expect the excitement to continue, gather around the crackling Camp Bonfire and experience the famous country hospitality or witness the amazing starry skies snuggling up at the Outdoor Cinema. Big Skies comes to a show stopping pinnacle with the Day on the Plain concert at Jimbour House.

5 May - Opera in the Vineyard, Ballandean


Time to dig out the black-tie outfit and join opera, food and wine lovers for Opera Queensland’s enthralling outdoor musical performance with the beautiful vineyards of Ballandean Estate Wines as a backdrop.

18 May - Warwick to Wallangarra with Southern Downs Steam Railway, Warwick

19 May - Hampton Festival, Hampton



Get set for a long weekend (17-19 May) of food, arts and cultural events in the high country hamlet of Hampton, half an hour north of Toowoomba. A range of food events, farm visits, dinners, and workshops are scheduled for Friday and Saturday in the lead up to the main Hampton Festival day a celebration of local produce, music and art held in Hampton’s Chapman Park.

25 May - Southern Downs Harvest Lunch, Killarney


Take a seat at this beautiful long table lunch in the beautiful grounds of Melrose Station. This unforgettable country culinary event celebrates the amazing array of fresh, seasonal produce and handcrafted wines that originate from our own backyard, the Southern Downs region. Good food, good music and good company - it’s very popular with locals, so take our advice:  go get your tickets now!
