Tourism Industry Business Capability Program
The Tourism Industry Business Capability Program aims to support tourism operators across the state by building digital capability and empowering them to deliver a consistently high standard of visitor experience. The second year of the program will build upon the capability gains from Year 1 and focus on building Digital and Trade capabilities with emphasis on one-on-one mentoring and coaching for tourism businesses.
With the program about to start its second year, tourism operators who are eligible for a Best of Queensland Experiences Program results will have the opportunity to build their capability further. The Year 2 program includes a digital mentoring program for 300 businesses, digital capability workshops and trade activities including mentoring and participation in trade events.
Digital mentoring program
300 tourism businesses across Queensland will have the opportunity to undertake beginner level digital mentoring sessions to improve their digital skillset and Best of Queensland Experiences program results. Beginner level digital mentoring sessions will be offered to eligible businesses that have achieved a ReviewPro GRI score of 80-100 but have not met the BOQE criteria for social media or online bookings.
Queensland tourism operators with strong digital capability can leverage existing and emerging technologies to develop a skilled workforce and create enhanced visitor experiences. The Queensland Government encourages the tourism industry to be active participants in their digital transformation and to reap the benefits of enhanced capability, improved efficiency and increased productivity in their workplace.
Technology will infiltrate the entire tourism ecosystem, impacting every aspect of the visitor journey. Tourism operators are increasingly looking to social media to gather visitor insights and tailor customer experiences. To ensure the program focus is continuous business improvement, Digital Workshops will only be available to tourism businesses that are eligible to apply for the Best of Queensland Experiences Program (BOQE) Program.
Digital mentoring is available to businesses that hold a BOQE ReviewPro GRI score between 80 and 100 and have not met the criteria for social media or online bookings. Businesses must be eligible for assessment in the BOQE to participate in year 2 of the Queensland Tourism Industry Business Capability Program. Businesses across all sectors of the tourism industry are encouraged to participate.
Understanding tourism marketing and distribution networks is critical to enabling tourism businesses to take their product to market, grow and to expand into new markets. The second year of trade programs will continue to build the skills and capabilities of all tourism businesses across Queensland, particularly SMEs and young businesses with growth ambitions.
The trade program will help businesses to increase their customer base and revenue pipeline by providing practical support to develop sales and marketing plans, rates sheets, trade sales materials and to participate in trade events. Including modules on distribution channels, engaging with trade, packaging and bundling experiences, sales training, commissions and contracting and online travel agents.
Micro, small and medium businesses across all sectors of the tourism industry are encouraged to participate. A tourism business is defined as a business that provides a direct service or experience to the leisure tourist and operates within ONE of the following categories: accommodation, attraction, food and drink, event, tour, hire, transport or general service.
