A WONDERFUL BIRD IS THE PELICAN
Built in 2018, the sculpture captures a memory of the artist’s childhood, when his mother would read him the poem ‘A Wonderful Bird is the Pelican’ before lights out. The body of the bird is an old water pump bought at a local cotton farm clearing sale.

The artist says he had no particular plan for this piece, rather his ideas grew from his available materials. The fish skeleton took shape out of old scrap metal and farming equipment, and then the idea of the fossil developed. Angus stated that he had great support from his family and the many members of the local community who got involved to bring this project to life, so he offered his work to the town as he believed the banks of
