Sitting just below the Great Dividing Range, the Lockyer Valley is affectionately known as Australia’s salad bowl, as the region is one of the 10 most fertile farming areas in the world. An easy drive east from Toowoomba, this itinerary will take you to exceptional farms for sampling local produce, enjoying quality fare at markets and cafes, visiting national parks to spot some near threatened bird species and will even please the motor enthusiasts with a visit to a couple of motoring museums.

STOP1

DAY 1: Toowoomba to Laidley

[APPROX. 56 KM / 1 HR]

Take the A21 to Gatton and visit the Qld Transport Museum, followed by Tins and Trays for lunch. Stop into the local markets for some treasure hunting. Make your way to various farm gates such as Awassi Cheese and 9Dorf Farms. Book into a farm stay or B&B such as the Stockton Rise Country Retreat in Laidley.

STOP2

DAY 2: Lockyer Valley to Toowoomba

Make your way back to Helidon via Ma Ma Creek and Lilydale to White Mountain State Forest to try and spot some of the local near-threatened bird species.

If you are a car and engine lover, make a detour via Flagstone Creek Road on your way back to Toowoomba to visit The Barn and Scotty’s Garage for some nostalgia.
